U.S. Veteran Leroy Parsons, 90, a resident of the Lacey area for 66 years, died at his home on April 26, 2012. Leroy was born on November 30, 1921 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Lee Hiram and Mary Lou (Webb) Parsons. He married Evelyn Myers on October 24, 1946. From 1949 to 1980 Leroy owned and operated the Lacey Barber Shop. He was a charter member of the Lacey Fire Department, serving as the department’s first chief, and remained active in the department for 32 years. Leroy served in the Navy during World War II. He was a deep sea diver and a member of the first Underwater Demolition Team. His assignments included bringing up sailors from the sunken ships at Pearl Harbor and underwater repair of naval ships. He served on the USS ABSD-5 and the USS YRD (H)-6. Leroy enjoyed hunting and spent hours tending his gardens at his home on Woodland Creek. He could make almost anything grow. Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, his sisters Helen and Juanita, and his brothers, Quinton and Vernon. He is survived by his sister, Bernice, and brother, Bill, four children, Sharon, Greg, Vicki and Gary, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Forest Funeral Home, 2501 Pacific Ave, Olympia.
