Andrew Hanson

Andrew Jack Hanson 3/20/94 to 11/30/13

Andrew “Andy” Jack Hanson was born on March 20th, 1994 in Olympia, WA to his parents Brian Hanson and Lilli Marlene Blaylock. Andy passed away at the age of 19 on November 30th, 2013.

Andy’s love for his friends and family compelled him to touch people’s lives with his goofy sense of humor, his voice, his fearlessness, compassion and his drive to make the world a better place. He shared his love for singing with anyone – his classmates in school, his grandparents (because they’d always listen), his sister (even though she didn’t always want to listen) and strangers. On a trip to Disneyland in 2005, Andy impressed the passengers on the shuttle bus from the hotel to Disneyland with his rendition of “Crocodile Rock”. As he grew older, his choice in music changed, but his propensity to sing at the drop of a hat never did. With this, it was no surprise that Andy wanted to join his high school choir, including singing at his sister’s graduation. Andy graduated from North Thurston High School with the class of 2012, also obtaining his Associates degree through the running start program at South Puget Sound Community College.

From sun up to sun-down, you would expect Andy to be outside enjoying nature as the backdrop of his incredible imagination. As he got older, his love of nature led him to enjoy fishing and hunting trips with his family at their grandparent’s property in Danville, WA. This rugged piece of property offered an escape from regular life. He enjoyed the hikes up to the Hogsback, fishing on Curlew Lake, and hunting for deer with the guys in the fall. There were also “Man Camp” trips to the Gevaart Family cabin in the Roslyn area.

Andy’s love for cats, became evident early on. His first cat was “Little Guy”, followed by Squeak (aka Fruiter), Bobby, Cupcake, Poppy, June, Chewbacca (everyone else calls him Johnny), and his last companion, PBJ. While living in Pullman, WA Andy missed the family cat Chewbacca. He went to Spokane to pick out a kitty from a litter and found a look-a-like naming him PBJ. It wasn’t unusual for Andy to communicate with his family by sending pictures of himself and PBJ along with text messages. Family and friends in-turn would respond with texts and pictures of their own cats.

Other activities in Andy’s life included a love for funny movies & shows – like Stepbrothers, Family Guy, Austin Powers, Anchorman, Shameless and Scrubs; on the more serious side, he like Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, and Breaking Bad. He was an avid video game player. More than anything, Andy loved being with his family. He and his cousin, David, were more like brothers than cousins. Andy made his best friends early, and grew up with so much love from so many people, and that hasn’t changed in his death.

Andy is survived by his mother and stepfather, Lilli and Kevin Blaylock of Olympia; his father, Brian Hanson of Everett; his sister, Megan Hanson of Olympia; his half-sister, Olivia Hanson of Hastings, Michigan; his uncle Robert Rheaume of Olympia; his aunt, Kari Hanson of Tacoma; his aunt, Danielle Rheaume of Seattle; cousins, David, Jason and Rebecca Rheaume of Olympia; paternal grandparents, Jack and Maureen Hanson of Seattle; and, maternal grandparents, David and Marlene Rheaume of Olympia. Andy was preceded in death by his step-grandfather, Paul Blaylock, Jr of Olympia.

Family and friends are invited to the memorial service at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5930 Mullen Rd. S.E., Lacey, WA 98503 on Saturday, December 14th, 2013. Memorial service starts at noon, followed by graveside services and reception. Flowers and food for the service are welcomed as well as donations to charities devoted to the prevention of suicide.

You may visit Andy in closed casket on Friday, December 13th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. We are reserving the time period of 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for grandparents, parents and his sister.
