Robert R Largen

Robert Rush Largen, 85, of Lacey, WA passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at his home. Bob was born March 9, 1927 to William M. Largen and Annie Hite Largen in Coalwood, WV. He grew up in Coalwood and Raysal, WV, graduating in 1944 from War High School. After attending Greenbrier Military School, Bob served his country in the United States Army. His military career spanned 27 years, including WWII and two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1972 as a Chief Warrant Officer III in Communications and Cryptography. Bob then worked at the Washington State Library where he met Rosemary Shold. They married on August 2, 1974, making their home in Yelm, WA. Bob was a coal miner, photographer, gunsmith, and author as well as a life teacher. He used his wit and creativity to convey his thoughts in a way that captivated his audience, making a lasting impression on everyone he met. Bob was a member of the St. Columban Parish in Yelm. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Rosemary Shold; his children Alan R. Largen (Allison) of Vashon Island; Catherine W. Largen; Patricia M. Largen, both of Federal Way; Thomas M. Largen of Spanaway; and William C. Largen (Anna) of Cocollala, ID; his grandchildren Otto and Nolon Largen; his step-grandchildren Cale and Erin Middleton; and his sister Wilma L. Jefferson of Winston-Salem, NC. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Yelm Cemetery in Yelm, WA.
